Harvey H. Kaiser is the President and founder of Harvey H. Kaiser Associates, Inc. (HHK), a consulting firm providing services in architecture, urban planning, and facilities management. He is a widely recognized expert in the fields of strategic facilities planning, facilities management, master planning, and historic architectural preservation. He has served as consultant to foreign and US governments and agencies, colleges and universities, health centers, foundations, and corporations.
Dr. Kaiser served for more than 20 years as a higher education administrator at Syracuse University, as a Senior Vice President and University Architect and as Associate Professor in the School of Architecture and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. During that time, he worked closely with the University Hill Corporation and included several health centers.
His 16 books, more than 50 articles, and many speaking engagements on facilities management, higher education administration, urban planning, and historic architectural preservation have established Dr. Kaiser as a leader in those fields. He has prepared and presented seminal material for the American Institute of Architects, National Association of College and University Business Officers, the Association of Physical Plant Administrators, and the Society for College and University Planning.
Dr. Kaiser’s specific contribution in the process of higher education and health center academic planning is based on the multifold experience as a faculty member, administrator, architect, and consultant. These experiences enable a capability to relate institutional missions to academic programs and translate them into facility requirements. He has served in the roles of prime contractor or member of consulting team to a variety of clients.
He is also a consulting architect on historic preservation.
In addition to his earned degrees, Dr. Kaiser received five advanced study fellowships [Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, American Scandinavian Foundation, New York State Council on the Arts, and National Endowment for the Arts (2).
Public and community service include: White House appointment to the Fisk University Board of Advisors; New York State Gubernatorial appointments to the Board of Professional Medical Conduct, the Lieutenant Governor’s Quality Communities Task Force, and Committee on the Adirondacks; and serving as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sage Colleges (Chair, 1997-99), Onondaga Historical Association, Everson Museum of Art, Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Landmarks Association of Central New York, Syracuse Stage Theater Corporation; and University Hill Corporation.
